SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

 

The goal of the Live and Learn Spanish program is to broaden the student’s Spanish language skills while introducing the student to various aspects of the culture of the Yucatan and Latin America. We integrate Spanish language education with the rich cultural experience of staying with local families, who are approved and supervised by Live and Learn Spanish.   Furthermore, we encourage students to achieve a better understanding of the Yucatan culture by participating in all kind of local and regional activities, most of which are free.  See activities/excursions.

 

Live and Learn Spanish offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced conversation, grammar, and literature classes made up of small groups with a maximum of 5 students, which provides an ideal learning atmosphere to improve Spanish language skills.

 

The Live and Learn Spanish language immersion program offers different levels to ensure proper placement of each student. An individual placement test is given the first day of classes and the students are placed according to their previous Spanish knowledge.

 

Classes for new students start every week, year-round.  Students take both grammar and conversation classes with the instructors re-enforcing the grammar lessons in the conversation classes.

 

Instructors are native Spanish speakers, and use a variety of teaching methods to develop Spanish language proficiency in each student.  Instructors assist each student in achieving their personal goals.  Instructors weave cultural lessons into the grammar and conversation classes, so that the students learn not just the language but also the context that it is used in.

 

Live and Learn Spanish also provides custom designed special interest programs:

 

·        Spanish language courses for groups with particular needs.

·        Content specific Spanish courses for the Travel, Medical, Business, Finance, Education, Law Enforcement, and Computer and Technology industries.

 

LIVE AND LEARN SPANISH: COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

BEGINNING SPANISH

Designed for students with no experience with the language. Students learn the basic vocabulary and are introduced to simple sentence structure and phonics, usage of nouns, and verbs, etc.

 

The classes focus on developing proficiency and confidence to allow the students to communicate in everyday situations using Spanish.

 

INTERMEDIATE SPANISH

Covers more complex vocabulary, sentence structure and application of grammatical rules and encourages students to participate in spoken practices such as debates, role-playing and real-life scenarios.

 

The classes focus on broadening the student’s ability to read and understand authentic texts from the Spanish-speaking world, emphasizing reading, writing, speaking, oral communication, and listening comprehension, in order to broaden their cultural understanding and mastery of the Spanish language.

 

ADVANCED SPANISH

Encompasses advanced composition in Spanish and beginning literary analysis, which develops advanced vocabulary, comprehension, interpretation, style, translation and free composition.

The classes focus on improving and consolidating the language skills acquired previously to increase fluency, proficiency, and communication in Spanish while building knowledge of Spanish culture and history.
